YLITYS / Crossing

In 2026, we will contribute to the European Capital of Culture year by creating a monumental artistic work that blends physical performance, art, and community.

Our aim is to forge a deep connection with the audience and offer a profound understanding of the delicate and meaningful nature of tightrope walking. This year marks a pivotal shift in our artistic journey, providing an opportunity to merge our creativity with community and cultural projects.

As part of Oulu 2026, we will present our largest and most significant work to date: Ylitys (Crossing). The piece will take place in Oulu, where we will walk a tightwire over the Merikoski River, with three tightwire walkers at the core, guiding the audience through a visual, physical, and emotional exploration of hope for the future, community, and perseverance.

Ylitys invites the audience to reflect on the delicate boundary between life and death, symbolizing a crossing both physically and spiritually. The act of crossing over the Tuiran rapids will serve as a powerful metaphor for the historical emotions of the place, fostering a new connection between the location and the audience.
