ENERGY ( Site Specific )

premiered on 30.9.2023
Kuusamo - Myllykosken Voimala

Energy is a multi-art project designed and implemented by the Finnish contemporary circus company Lumo Company, which takes place at Kuusingi's Myllykoski hydropower plant in Kuusamo, in cooperation with Kuusinkijoki kuntoon Ry. The artistic content of the piece was inspired by the nature surrounding the hydropower plant, especially the rivers, water and forest, as well as the power plant building itself and its architecture. Circus artists bring the environment of the hydropower plant to life, e.g. tightrope dances. The importance of nature's diversity is highlighted through the means of art.

Energy works series combines spatial and environmental art using circus technology as a means of expression. The spatial artwork combines sound, light and physical expression. The sound design of the work utilizes the soundscape of the hydroelectric plant's surroundings. The performance music and the soundscape of the installation seem

to be born from the sounds of nature, such as the gurgling of water and the industrial structures and machine parts of the hydropower plant.

The work Energy opens a new era for the operation of the hydropower plant, acts as a peek window for local residents and visitors, and takes a step in the growth of cultural activities.

Energy is a contemporary circus installation, where the viewer can follow the performance from a distance or move along with the work following the performers.
